Andrew John Fakaua Ponton is a filmmaker from the Pacific Islands, Scotland, and Australia, now based in Europe. His work explores resilience, identity, and everyday life in the Pacific. His debut feature film, BATI, premiered at the New Zealand International Film Festival and was released theatrically in August 2025 across Fiji, Samoa, and Papua New Guinea. BATI is the first independent Fijian feature since 2004. Andrew holds an MA in Film Directing from the Edinburgh College of Art and a BA (Hons) in Film and Screen Media Production from Griffith Film School. Alongside directing, he teaches filmmaking and develops projects that connect Pacific stories with global audiences.
